for those of you looking for something to use on occasional shorter hikes, the kid comfort ii has all of the great deuter basics and is a little more compact.
i have an 8 month old (18lbs) and two other kids 5 and 7.
prior to purchase, we compared this child carrier to the deuter kid comfort ii, the sherpani rumba, and the kelty child carrier 3.0, among others.
i love this pack because it makes me feel independent - i can go shopping, to a fair, a sporting event, or on serious hikes with my kid happy, and all the gear we could possibly need neatly contained
the new native carrier is the best baby product i have ever owned (and i have 3 kids!).
the other carriers had so many snaps and pulls it took me 5 min to get the poor kid in it, then when i finally did i thought i'd drop him while i adjusted!
i have 2 other kids, and people think i'm "super-mom" because i can do almost anything with this sling-bake cookies, do laundry, etc.-little do they know that i wear my baby the whole time.
i siggust this to all the new mothers, or even the ones that already have a kid, it helps so much.
the latter one i've had prior to this baby, and i never had any success with the previous two kids.
i started using it early and often with my kids.
this is a great product i used it with both of my kids and have it stored for baby number three.
i am 5'9 and the carrier did become a strain when my kids got older and heavier - it did require strength, but the alternative of carrying them on my hip just didn't work for me.
we had a deuter kid comfort 3 and loved it and did some serious hiking with it, we also had a kelty framed carrier and it could not compare to the deuter.
even my husband was impressed, as it means we don't have to spend more money on a huge piece of equipment to get around with both kids (newborn and a toddler).
i never thought i'd see the day that i could wear one of our kids (4 kids later!) we have a baby bjorn that i would use if i had to but i'd be in so much pain afterwards.
you need someone to help you put the kid in and i didn't feel like my daughter was secure enough so i never tried it again.
so for it's ability to help me soothe a tired, screaming kid quickly, i'd give it five stars.
we were there for hours and aside from when i changed his diaper, fed him and the 1 time i wanted to ride a ride and let hubby stay with baby while i rode with my other kids, i wore him the entire day
i take it everywhere i go now and just stuff my kid inside and i'm ready to shop!
basically, once it's on & the kid is in, it's great.
our daughter fell asleep in it 3 times while hiking, and she is not one of those kids who just falls asleep wherever.
when researching this backpack i read that it comes with a small rearview mirror so you can check on your kid without taking the backpack off.
this is big enough for kid supplies, diapers, lunch, change of clothes.
a little big, but the kid's getting big too, i guess.
excellent quality, kid fits well and stays put.
- ample cargo space under the kid to carry snacks, water, diapers, jacket, camera, etc...
i love carrying my baby around and did so with our first child and have have gone from a baby bjorn to a kelty kids backpack but i wanted to try something new to carry our newborn in.
i still carry it around in the diaper bag since it makes a great breast feeding cover up along with other useful things like tying your older kid the the shopping cart.
never found one that didn't hurt my back, or wasn't awkward since i am pretty small, and my kids tend to be big.
my baby weighs 20 pounds and it doesn't feel like i am carrying 20 pounds on my back.since i have 4 kids and go shopping with all 4 of them most of the time, this carrier is very very helpful.
i plan on using it this summer for camping trips with our family (4 kids) so having free hands is a must, and baby boy is too much of a porker to put in a front pack.
it fits pretty well (we are both over 5'9, average build with long torsos.) even our older pre-teen kids can use it to carry the baby in it.
(the picture on the box helped me figure that out.) it is for kids from 6 months up to 36 months, and comes with a clear rain shield that easily zips onto the retractable sun shield.
(d) stable when loading your kid,
it's great that it is comfortable enough to sleep in, but the kid's head just goes limp to the side and looks terrible for their neck...if any suggestions for keeping their head propped up, please
the kids love love love being carried around.
the moby wrap was recommended to me by my friend with four kids, so i bought one for myself when our daughter was born.
my husband & i recently purchased this kelty kid carrier to use while we were in washington d.c.
one other silly thing we didn't think of is that the weight limit (i think is 40 lbs) includes what you carry, not just the kid!
my sister-in-law, a pediatric specialist, found ours at a closeout at a kids store in philadephia last christmas.
great for day hikes and plenty of storage for the kids gear.
once in england, it was easy to pack in the rental vehicle along with all the baggage one has to take when you are traveling with kids.
i loved that this was designed by parents raising differently abled kids.
review: i said i would never been a baby-wearing mama, but i also said i would never get a minivan or let my kids thrown temper tantrums in stores.
i researched carriers for months while pregnant with baby 4 because with the first 3 kids, i was never totally happy with one.
i use it around the house as i pick up and do basic housework, and then use it when i take my three children on a walk and place two kids in the stroller and one in the carrier.
i have 4 kids and had never used one of these before but my 4th would scream if put down for even 5 seconds, especially those 1st 8 weeks!
pros: wide straps, keeps kid close cons: minimal support, gets rough on the back quickly the bottom line: recommended for "around the house" with brand new babies, but for extended
when i had my third my oldest was only 2 1/2 so to keep my sanity we had to get out of the house, but i wasn't quite up to the task of an infant, toddler and one walking toddler, nor was i about to
i was really shocked at how comfortable a 120 lb woman carrying a 20 lb kid on her back could really be!
i've used a wrap, a sling, a backpack and a trekker with my three kids.
the little flap at the front of the carrier, which can be folded down when the child is facing forward, constantly pops back up from the folded position to bop my kid in the face.
my big complaint is that when the kids get larger (or if you wear it for more than 20 minutes at a time) it really starts to kill your back.
- great for kids up to 6months
