There are two side pockets, one for the babies sippie cup and another for your drink. I've tried four different packs, and this one and a very expensive LLBean one that they dont make anymore were my favorites. Kelty is a great brand. I tried the Chicco one for 100 bucks and for me, a smaller lady it didnt sit high enough and the belt around the waist wasn't thick and padded enough. from Amazon.com Those backpack carriers all seem to have swing-out legs that really stabilize the pack - you can set the pack down and get the baby in and out while standing beside the pack. We are traveling for several months with a seven-month old baby, lots of planes and buses, so a big backpack style is not what we were looking for. I looked carefully at two knapsack style carriers - the Transit 2.1 and Deuter Kangakid.
