I am very pleased with my Philips MC235 CD Micro System, but the battery in the remote was dead !Once that was replaced I love it !
"The Philips MC235 CD Micro System with Remote is a great buy. However, I do have one complaint, it could be sturdier.

"Unfortunately, I can't give a fair review of this product as it was broken right out of the box and I haven't been able to use it yet. The same day I received it I had to send it back to Philips for an exchange because the automatic sliding CD door was not functioning and several buttons on the remote control did not work! A very disappointing experience.

I know this happens with MP3 files, but on a pre-recorded audio CD straight of the package this is a disappointing setback. Something as universal as Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' can't be played without these silent pauses between tracks that are supposed to blend into one another. I've read reviews of other Philips CD players doing the same thing, so this is probably something right across the board with their products.
The problem that i have is that after a year the remote stopped working. Yes, I changed the battery and did other trouble shooting, but to no avail, the remote doesn't work anymore. I went on Philips website and you can get a replacement remote for $45, but that costs almost as much as I paid for the system itself. In other words, if you're looking for a low-cost stereo that's functional, this is a good system.
We've been delighted with it. For what it's worth, I am a recording engineer and audiophile, and I review high-end speakers. This Philips shelf stereo has truly excellent sound quality for the price (when you enable its "DBB" bass-boost feature). It sounds uncolored and "open", meaning that it lacks the usual boxy, boomy or tinny sound of most small stereos.
