it senses both the particles in the air and the odors in the air separately which i though was a cool feature.
so far, it's captured only smaller particle dust where the rabbit air gets small and larger particle dust and some fur.
i am a nurse in wound care and nano particle silver is the magic bullet for infected chronic wounds so it must work in an air filter.
the remarkable thing about this device is its ability to monitor the air for impurities (particle and odor) and adjust the fan speed to compensate.
oh yah the bio fresh reads the particles and odor in a room when you first turn it on (it's really cool), that when we put it in our room, the same day we took the other one back, the reading wasn't
my wife can spray her perfume 15 feet away and it will peg the particle meter on the unit.
the best thing about this one is the gas/smell sensor and the particle sensor.
my previous experience with air purifiers comes from owning an ionic breeze quadro which i thought did a good job with getting the large dust particles, but it took forever to do so.
i leave the unit set on auto & as soon as i light a cigarette, the rabbit air kicks on & goes to work removing particles & odor.
i am not sure how fine the particles are that get trapped, but in terms of actual dust in the air ...
the air in my bedroom is fresh and light...no dust particles floating around anymore.
(note: some cigarrette odor will remain , since removing cigarette odor by air filteration system is impossible---cigarette chemical particle is too small to capture even with high-end hepa or ulpa
the bad news is, it isn't a hepa, uv germicidal, negative ion generating, particle detecting, auto-on/off superfilter.
i put it on my bedside providing a good night sleep, a much needed relief from my office where the old ac is recycling all kinds of irritating particles.
there is an air quality sensor that changes the speed of the purifier based on the particles it detects.
the medium filter (which filters medium sized particles and increases the efficiency/lifespan of the main hepa filter) and a customized filter of your choice.
maybe my expectations for this product were a bit too high, but if i stick my nose at the output of the machine, i don't think i should be able to detect any particles coming out of the machine.
serioulsy, i thought the room i used this in was pretty clean, dust particles in the air when the sun shined in, but not too bad, then, i looked at the filter after two weeks.
it did collect some airborne particles but did not help with the cat hair and was not effective enough to help my boyfriend.
the second, outermost one is the carbon pre-filter than catches larger particles and reduces odor.
in comparison to many air filters which use disposable (and expensive) hepa filter units, this friedrich uses an electrostatic filter element to collect and trap dust particles.
simple replacement furnace filters are inexpensive and easy to maintain, but generally better suited to clearing large particles from the air.
a prefilter removes large particles/hairs, then an ionization chamber clumps the smaller particles, allowing them to be easily removed by the final stage carbon filter.
it wasn't the "snapping" noise of the electrostatic plates collecting particles, either.
prefilter removes large dust particles.
i find that it is pretty effective at removing the common airborne particles in my home.
i got this with a bit of skepticism but having used the product for a number of months now, i can say that it has removed it's fair share of air borne particles.
i have had no allergy flares since owning this machine which tells me that its doing the job of making sure that dust & dog skin & hair particles are removed from the air.
the prefilter catches large particles while finer dust is processed in the metal washable filter.
bright sunshine coming through the window showed air was not clear, haze and particles in it.
when i clean in the room, i turn it on "high" for about an hour just to catch any particles that might be floating around.
so, when diagnosing the motor problem i apparently put the hepa filter in the other way and the machine blew all the trapped particles back into the air and i had a massive allergy attack.
the 250e also has an auto setting where it will sense the amount of particles currently in the air and adjust the speed accordingly for you.
even in this mode, you can see particles going into the intake, so it's still effectively cleaning the room.
who knows if the internal components also get dusty degrading the device as well (i suspect that it does to some extent, even if the particles are small).
"it captures 99.97% of particles, including allergy-provoking pollen grains, dust mites, mold spores and pet dander particles."
the most recent set are just the white particle filter.
