My husband and I used to have 3 of the old honeywell purifiers--the ones about 2x this size and 5x as loud. This works just as well, if not better. from Target.com Between the kitties, the dust, the a/c, and the carpet, it was getting impossible to breathe at night. I began researching air purifiers and I chose this Honeywell model because: it has a true Hepa filter; the filter is permanent and only needs vacuuming for maintenance (there is a pre-filter that needs to be replaced but it is inexpensive); the system alerts you when the filters need to be changed/replaced; and this model was available in store so I didn't have to pay for S&H. My only concern was that this model was not powerful enough for a large area and did not have a CADR rating as high as the more expensive model that Honeywell makes (I don't think Target carries this model). from Target.com Pros: Absoutely nothing. It can be harmful and unhealthy but with an air cleaner it'll be fresh and filtered just for you. The Honeywell 17000 HEPA QuietCare Air Cleaner is made to operate quietly, so you won't be disturbed as it works. I had also bought a larger Holmes HAP756 unit for my living room and the Holmes is WAY quieter on the lowest setting.
