Two months now and the prefilter(the active carbon filter that wraps around the HEPA one) is already dirty and filthy. Imagine all that dirty filth floating in my room while I'm breathing. The noise level is a bit high, but that's a common trait of Honeywell brand, already knew that by my research prior to purchase... The unit has electronic controls and is programmable, but lacks a one-touch/countdown timer like on the Panasonic model I had before. from Buy.com I purchased this device today after spending quite a bit of timeconsidering the various options available at the local Home Depot. Important to my final choice was this information printed on the box:"Never replace your HEPA filter again! This Honeywell Air Purifierincludes a unique HEPA filter that can be vacuum-cleaned and replacedback into the unit."Imagine my surprise when I read the actual manual: "CAUTION: Do notattempt to wash either the activated carbon pre-filter or the HEPAfilter.... The primary HEPA filter should remain effective for 1 to 3years.... from Homedepot.com Been doing this since I was a wee tyke. I've used many fans over the years, but the one thing they all had in common was they all got dust on the blades quite bad, and much sooner than you'd think, because they ran all night. I had a honeywell 11520 purifier to help me with asthma and allergies. You would not want to put this in a medium or large bedroom, unless you purified during the day and turned it to Low or Off while you slept. Honeywell claims that their HEPA filter is cleanable and only needs to be vacuumed every 6 months.
