i picked this unit up at the store and took it home and installed it in about 2-hours.
we picked it up at the silverdale, wa store the next day with no problems.
i opened and tried 2 more units before selecting one at the store.happy now :)after getting new windows installed in the sun room of our 100 year old house, we thought to make the space useful as an
however, the in-store folks were somewhat clueless, and directed me to the local sears part store.
i purchased this unit instead of popular less expensive units at local improvement stores mainly because i really like amazon and i wanted a higher efficiency unit.
we were looking for something that would cool our bedroom and adjacent office, and also be light enough to store elsewhere and install easily when the power went out.
a large brick and mortar store sells these exclusively at very low prices, and consumer reports had many nice things to say about them, so i bought three of them.
i got it from a big regional furniture and housewares store for $139, $30 off the list price.
it's light weight and small enough that i can take it out of the window come fall and store it in a closet, then take it out again on memorial day.
have to agree, it is fairly noisy, but cools very quickly, and the price is hard to beat (tho i did get mine on sale.) after installing one, went back to store and bought a second.
our issue was that we have a very thin window we wanted to find a unit for (19.25"), and [two home improvement stores] didn't have anything.
was not sure so i went to another store and got slightly different model sharp which performed exactly the same as first one.
pros: i first purchased a $350 portable air conditioner at a local store.
when i was told by the local appliance store that my 18" windows were too narrow for a through-the-window air conditioner, i thought of cursing the carpenter who talked me into putting these windows
the remote control is easy to use and stores on the back of the unit.
the store advised we wait 1-2 hours after transporting to start the unit, since tilting it could disturb the coolant.
but, i needed a small window unit, my local stores didn't carry any nice brands, and amazon didn't ship panasonics at the time.
however, the cost of shipping really made me think whether i would purchase the unit from newegg or a big-box retail store.
in most stores, the salespeople really are not trained on these units, and know very little detailed information.
we have had a really difficult time finding a vertical air conditioner and when we saw this at walmart.com at such a reasonable price we bought it and had it shipped to our local store which was free!
be prepared for a big box if you do site-to-store and have some muscle to install.
it's such a hassle to return things back to the store.
i had it shipped to the store, and picked it up - it was convenient, and saved me quite a bit of money.at first look, i thought it was going to be a bear to install, and i didn't know if i'd be able
the haire air conditioner 15,000 btu arrived from site to store in great condition.
we had previously purchased the 11,000 btu ge (in-store model), but it couldn't cool the 480 square ft.
when i received the box (the same day it was deliverd to the store because i was at work) it was dented like it was dropped.
wonderfully fast site to store free delivery!
the delivery was faster then the web site said to the store.
site to store delivery too was great and easy.
i bought this ac online and received at the site to store in 8 days; quicker than what was projected.
so it was damaged before it was placed in the boxed to be shipped.put it back in the box took it back to walmart and had to go online and buy another, because the store was out.
