first of all, the box and the webpage descriptions describe the window kit as optional, which is true except if you want to use cooling mode, you have to allow the exhaust to go out a window.
wish i had gone with the window air conditioner instead.
the vent that connects it to the window is always blazing hot which makes the room even warmer.
it has to vent to a window when in the cooling mode, which can make placement tricky.
we purchased this a/c to use for our tent #1 the vent only worked on one side #2 the exhaust pipe for the window is blazing hot !
pros: lots of cold air, looks nice, takes only minimal window space.
i purchased this portable because my living room is facing west and no window.
pros: great price, good a/c power, nice remote control, effective window kit, continuous drainage valve.
consider that this unit, while mobile, sacrifices a good window seal.
i live in a building so i too was required to get rid of my window air conditioner which worked fine by the way.
the window kit is a joke and lets too much hot air back in the room.
perfect if you don't have the option of installing a higher-output window-mounted unit.
that aside, highly recommended as an alternative to a window-mounted a/c, especially if you ever need to move it to other areas - an almost impossible task with window-mounted units.
not cheap looking, like others i have seen at home depot and sam's club.i bought this for my apartment.
we have a small window unit in place, but since temps have risen over 90 degrees it was not quite doing the job.
after considering cutting holes in walls for wall mount units or trying to fit those ugly window jobs that always look jerry-rigged from both the inside and out i decided on a portable unit.
my husband ended up making the window accessory that was missing and i ended up downloading the manual from amazon.com.thanks guys!the portable air conditioner was definitely worth my money.
i bought one of these a month ago and it has been nothing but horrible...i would not recommend buying...get a standard window a/c sheaper and works a lot better...
window kit could be better but it works.
comments: i bought this unit to replace a 7800 btu window unit i used to cool a small server room.
i have to have the unit up on a counter so i can vent it out a window and allow for the water to drain.
this all because i wanted to avoid a window unit.
accurate temperature controls, auto startstop cooling, cools the whole room, cools well, easy window installation, good overall product, great value, modern appearance, quiet, remote control, timer
there are no side curtain pieces, so you have to have a horizontally sliding window or you have to build a box to fit into your casement window that will perfectly fit the unit.
cons: foam window install kit.
the square footage of the top floor of our apartment is approximately 500 square feet.
