while $70 is a bit steep for handheld communications, the voice scramble feature makes it all worth while.
i gave it 5 stars, but that's only based on really basic walkie talkie functions.
the vox feature works seamlessly...i have since also purchased the small over the ear headset with vox capability and it has enhanced it even more.
i like the scamble feature,it gives you privacy plus you dont have the hassle of other people talking to you thinking your someone else in their group.battery life is very good.
the weather feature was a great benefit to have.
the product looks are lacking, but the function is great and noaa is great for early morning weather updates - much better than surfing on a pda.
though we haven't had much time to use the radio features i have enjoyed the weather feature quite a bit.
read the manuals, it is a little tricky to get used to the settings, but once is done, you have a powerful tool at your hands.
and it's always nice to get the weather forecast (one of the radio's great functions) for wherever you may be.
also, it seemed to me that the midland gxt650 is easier to do settings.
cool product, most likely the best gmrs radios for the price and features on the market..
it has an incredible set of features, from scrambling the voice to hands free operation.
the menu system is easy to use, except for a slight learning curve to remember the two-letter radio function codes.
there are lots of other features in the radio that i have yet to use like dual channel scanning, weather reports, group setups with private channels, etc.
incredible range of useful features, a great buy.
all the features are quite typical for this sort of product.
the up/down arrows control the volume.
they work well and do have all the features described except for one thing.
the only feature they don't have is a lighted screen.
we don't use all the bells and whistle features as they are not really needed.
good sound quality, lots of features.
my single ham handi talkie cost about 4x what you get 2 of these for and these have most of the same features and even some features not on my expensive radio (vibrate call).
transmits very strong, great battery life, many useful features.
i would recommend them to anyone that wants clear audio and ease of use, once you have set them up by channels.
do wish that the weather channel function worked a little bit better in my area, but that's because i'm out in nowhere's ville.
the vox function works great.
otherwise, they are feature rich and smaller than some of the others, including some other motorola models with really long antennas.
i am sure i can get better features and longer range with a permanent setup and a "big box" radio, but i am completely satisfied with this product.
nice radio with many features.
the functions are easy to use, and the radio veary derable.
the radio has a lot of features (scan, weather, dual watch ...).
i like the ability to convert it to a handheld as well but haven't had the opportunity to really use that feature much.
a more expensive radio may have more features, but if the power output is the same the range will essentially be the same.
even at higher power settings, i have had difficulty getting units to work in a two mile area over open water in urban areas.
they are solidly built and have several features.
they have many features, most of which you probably won't even need.
nice charger and quite a few useful functions like the vibrate and weather radio stations.
the led light is a great feature as well.
design and function are much better than cobra.
pros: scan function with lockouts, qt function.
pros: good construction, good feel, good audio, light feature and charging options.
this particular model has about as many different functions as you'll find in any gmrs radio today (although voice scramble would be a nice addition)!
even the finest, pro-quality radios get the same 2 miles in an urban or forested setting and that is the maximum you can hope for; much less is normal in dense rocks and buildings.
the sound quality is excellent, the privacy codes are a nice feature and the size is perfect.
i feel these radios are feature packed and a good value and i would buy again.
the bottom line: good solid two way radio with multiple features.
when you hit the monitor button, it lets you listen to all traffic on channel 2 "disabling your privacy code feature temporarily".
the talkabout performed surprisingly well; but i also realized that it lacked some features which i needed.
the extra money for the slightly improved features isn't worth it.
it really helps! 3) this model has features including: a scan button and a lock button (a must for people with kids). 4) the 14 channels and 38 subcodes are a great thing to have.
i was looking at the trisquare 300's but chose the 100's because they were cheaper, have the same radio function, and i do not text message.
don't even think of comparing it to the higher power commercial business only settings (gmrs) other walkie-talkies have built in.
features on the tsx-300)
i've used these radios in a variety of settings.
otherwise the product is quite functional and easy to use.
the li 7000 radios are a huge evolution in range, features and specialy battery capacity (1500 mah) which is the best i've seen for this radio type.
the range that we have tryed so far is 1 mile in house and up the road they did fine no loss of reception the best feature of the cobras is the hands free talking i just love it i can work on a power
our community emergency response team all use midland brand and my gxt1000 is the best for ease of use and many features.
i brought the midland gxt1000vp4 radios to the fair and randomly selected a channel and privacy setting.
a lot of features and the privacy codes which i like in these radios.
the unidens have a lot of really nice features and i find they are slightly clearer than the midlands.
they are packed with features, and easy to use once you learn the basics of the menu system.
i enjoyed the locking feature so that the channels don't get changed while it's in your pocket.
they have a good-working lock function so that they won't get on the wrong channel by accident.
i didn't expect a really long range in an urban setting.
the two main features that i wanted was rechargeability and channel subcodes.
pretty amazing, has features that used to only be found in ham radios.
and the product is nice features, works good in reception, but the frs range is only about a half mile.
the noaa weather radio capability of the cobra li7200s was a key item for me.
these radios do have a great range and many different settings that are explained in the description.
pros: fold down antenna, call feature, clear display
pros: long battery time, lots of features
pros: compact, lots of good features
at about $15 shipped these radios are certainly worth the price and function as an excellent intercom between houses on the property where i live.
pros: quality,price,size,features
pros: -amount of channels -call feature -backlight -range!
there is alot of features that you'll be happy with.
good features.
older motorola's had this feature so you could set your radio to power down if no activity after an hour or two (and they would beep to alert you before powering down).
the weather radio feature and the vibrating alert are two more handy features.
