We've used these for a year or two. They are better than most FRS/GMRS radios because: from Amazon.com Radio "B" doens't receive transmissions from Radio "A". Radio "B" couldn't be able to establish Tx communication with Radio "A". Channels proved: 1 upto 22 Modes proved: CTCSS and DCS from Amazon.com This radio is still 2W max output power. I did not find that the covered distance is greater than my previous older Cobra 2W radios, however LiIon battery gives better battery life. from Amazon.com These worked fantastic on the slopes. I've used Motorola radios before, and they just didn't have the range or the clarity I needed. This Cobra set not only conveniently includes lith-ion batteries, but they are incredibly clear, even when separated by miles of snow terrain. Not only are the transmissions clear, but the speakers themselves are bright and distortion-free, with no howling even at high volumes. from Amazon.com got the radios for snowboarding so we could keep track of each other on the mountain. They worked very well, good range, very clear speakers. I enjoyed the locking feature so that the channels don't get changed while it's in your pocket. When your on GMRS channels, you have the option of low, medium, or high power.
